Ageing is in effect volume loss. Wrinkles and creases in the skin form due to reduction in elastin and collagen but facial volume loss is the main discernable factor in the ageing process. The mid face is a region that is particularly susceptible to volume loss. The malar fat pad rest in the mid face, just on either side of your nose.
Facial volume loss is gradual but begins in the late 20’s and early 30’s. The first area that people often notice volume loss is from directly under the eye area. This appeared lack of volume is in part due to volume loss of the malar fat fat and formation of nasolabial folds
Nasolabial folds or lines are the lines that run from the corner of your Nose ( Naso) to the corner of your upper lip (labia). These lines deepen over time and are a result of loss of volume or atrophy of the malar fat pad in the mid face. The result of nasolabial folds and facial volume loss is that the face can appear tired, gaunt and drawn. This can be especially visible in patients with less rotunded, rounded faces. Patients with leaner faces and high set cheek bones can experience higher volume loss and appear more tired looking.
So how do Dermal Fillers treat Nasolabial folds?
Quite simply by restoration of lost volume. Dermal fillers are made of a substance called Hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the human body. It is important in collagen production. Each dermal filler treatment at Visage Clinic is bespoke, tailored and individual to each patient. No two faces are the same and our treatments at Visage Clinic reflect this. The amount of volume required is dependent on the volume loss. Dermal fillers for volume restoration in nasolabial folds treatments are 1ml per tube. For some patients with softer lines it is possible to divide this volume between the left and right nasolabial folds. For deeper lines more volume is required. For complete eradication of deep lines , more than one treatment may be required.
How much downtime do I need with Nasolabila fold dermal fillers?
This is variable from patient to patient. The procedure is non surgical and is made up of a series of injections along the nasolabial fold. It is well tolerated, modern dermal fillers contain local anaesthetic agents , the treatments are virtually pain free. Risk of a bruise and some swelling are the two things that we make patients aware of . The risk of a bruise is about 1.5 per 10 patients. It can take 10-12 days for a bruise to completely resolve but make up can be applied to cover this within 12 hours.
Are dermal fillers to the Nasolabial folds very noticeable?
This is one of the most common questions asked to our team of doctors. The answer is no, the results are natural, subtle and restorative. Dermal filler treatments do not radically change the face, they do however restore previous facial volume that was lost over time.
