Botox versus Dermal Fillers Cork

Botox versus Dermal Fillers Cork

At Visage Clinic we often get ask questions about the difference between Botox versus Dermal Filler treatments. The difference in product, areas that can be treated, how long they last and most importantly the results people can expect! This blog will outline the difference between the two treatments and the results that you can expect from both treatments.

What is Botox and how does it work?

Botox also known as Botulinum Neurotoxin A , is a natural, purified protein that is used to temporarily relax facial muscles, thus preventing deep lines and wrinkles from appearing. It can also be used to treat numerous medical conditions, at Visage Clinic we have a huge amount of experience in treating excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis. Botox can only be administered by a Medical Doctor and involves a series of injections to targeted muscles areas. Botox begins to work between day 4-6 and is at maximum strength at 14 days, it last approximately 3 months.

What does the treatment involve?

There is no downtime with Botox treatments, many of our clients have their treatments during their lunch breaks! It is important to note that you can get a small bruise and swelling directly after treatment, this is down to the mechanical action of the needle and not the botox itself. Don’t worry, this can be covered up with makeup! There are no long term side effects to having anti-wrinkle injections, you can go about your daily activities and also fly.

Who would this treatment suit?

Botox is suitable for a wide range of people, in aesthetic practice it is used for rejuvenation of skin and to reduce fine lines, wrinkles and deep furrows. Botox injections are used to target specific muscles of the face, they are used to remove moderate wrinkles, soften deep lines and furrows. The areas treated are the Glabella, the area between the eyes. The frontalis, upper forehead and the orbicularis oculi , crows feet area.

Who should avoid this treatment?

People with known medical conditions, such as nerve/muscle conditions. During your free consultation, you will fill out a detailed questionnaire and also be assessed by one of the Visage Team Doctors. Treatment is not advised for those pregnant or breastfeeding.

What results does the treatment aim to provide?

The treatment is used to soften the lines caused by facial expression and at Visage Clinic we are big fans of the natural look. The perfect Botox treatment is one where the results are natural looking and people are unaware that you have had botox. They will tell you how great you look! Often clients attend clinic with a singular line or point that they find troublesome, or often will say how people pass comments “ You look tired”, “Are you grumpy?”. At Visage clinic, our goal is to give you the best possible results and during your consultation our Doctors will assess your wishes and needs and also what you can expect from the treatment. We often recommend “three areas of Botox” as this gives a global affect and also for a more natural looking treatment. It also allows for the full benefits of botox to be seen. Botox is not only effective in treating dynamic wrinkles but also static lines, if used a regular intervals and at a certain age then Botox can prevent wrinkles from ever forming!

What are Fillers and how do they work?

During the ageing process a few things occur. Firstly the amount of collagen and elastin the skin begins to decrease, quite simply our cells produce less of amounts of both. Skin in time can become dryer, thinner, more fragile and has less ability to rejuvenate. Hyaluronic acid with a like a scaffold within the skin is in bountiful amounts when we are younger, as we age the levels of Hyaluronic acid begin to drop. The skin is less well supported and lines, wrinkles and deep furrows can begin to appear. Careful and expert application of dermal fillers can restore this lost volume and help rejuvenate tired looking faces, resulting in a fresher more youthful appearance
The treatment of wrinkles and deep lines with dermal filler will usually involve injecting this naturally occurring product (HA) through a tiny needle. The discomfort is minimal and he treatment does not take long to perform. The aesthetic outcomes of treatments with dermal filler are seen immediately after the treatment. With no down time the treatment is very popular at Visage Clinic and we love seeing how happy people are with the results achieved.

Botox vs dermal fillers

What does the treatment involve?

Dermal filler treatment involves injection Hyaluronic acid into the chosen site via a tiny needle. The process is relatively painless and our dermal fillers contain local anaesthitic agent lidocaine which numbs the area. The treatment is fast and usual takes just 5-10 to perform, The results are immediate. The results last for about 12 months but can differ between individuals. Unlike Botox treatments the risk of bruising in dermal filler treatments is slightly higher due to the fact that a deep layer of tissue is injected and that the needle is marginally bigger. Bruising is not a big issue and subsides over a period of a few days, it can also be covered with makeup.

Who would this treatment suit?

Dermal fillers can be used on a wide range of clients. There are very effective in rejuvenating skin, reducing fine lines, wrinkles and deep furrows. For other clients they wish to alter the faces shape by increasing volume and contour to cheeks and increase facial volume. At Visage Clinic many of our dermal filler clients are very active people, runners for example often have loss of facial volume, theses clients get fantastic results from dermal filler treatment. Another client base that have fantastic results are people who have undergone weight loss. Post weight reduction they note loss of volume to the mid face area, dermal fillers restore this lost volume and give added structure to the face.

Who should avoid this treatment?

Again, pregnant women or those breast feeding, there is no contraindication or reported issues but at Visage Clinic we do not treat patients of they are pregnant or breast feeding.

What results does the treatment aim to provide?

The results of dermal filler treatments are immediate, they are subtle, people will not know that you have had dermal filler treatment but will comment that you look fresher and fantastic. The results of dermal fillers last about 12 months and as times passes the affect will begin to soften as the body begins to break down the natural product – Hyaluronic acid. We advise our clients that when they notice this, they should attend clinic again with the view to having another treatment or “Top Up”. The beauty about dermal fillers is that they can be added to over time! Dermal filler treatments unlike botox are quite a personalized treatment and clients attend clinic with specific areas that they do not like – nasolabial folds for example, the lines that run from your nose to the corner of your mouth. Treatment with dermal filler is “volume dependent” ie, often more filler is required to get the desire affect. At Visage Clinic our team of Doctors will advise as what areas should be treated and also the volume of product required to achieve your preferred look.
At Visage Clinic we believe in providing safe, professional and results driven treatments. Growing old is not an option but looking your best is. Redefine your Beauty at Visage clinic.
